Do you ever wish you had a second chance to meet someone for the first time?

(via little-roro)

Certain Doctor Who Phrases and how Olive Garden Customers React: An Experiment Done by a Server

twotabletaylor:

As a server, I did an experiment tonight, I was saying basically only Doctor Who quotes to my tables, some understood, others did not. These are a few of the phrases and people’s reactions:

[When greeting tables] "Oh hello! I’m The Doctor! I am here to help! Look, they…

Anonymous asked: do you think its okay for white people to watch the boondocks?

reverseracism:

Everyone has the right to watch what they would like.

The thing about the boondocks is that it is a show specifically created for black peoples entertainment. The issues that go on in the show are relative to the black community, right down the reclamation of the word “n*gga/n*gger”.

Often, those who are not black are laughing for the wrong reasons. They laugh at the “Coonery” of the show. They do not see what African Americans are seeing and experiencing.

Skater of the Month: April 2014

psychocityderbygirls:

Name: Block Dahlia
Number: 35mm
Position: Blocker

1. Tell us the story behind your name and number. The Block Dahlia is taken from the unsolved 1947 murder case of the Black Dahlia (if you’ve never looked up photos of the crime scene…don’t!) I’ve always loved film/movies/entertainment so I chose 35mm (the format of film typically used in movies)

2. You have been skating for OPCDG for some time now. What has been your most memorable moment? My proudest moment was with my team (the Arkham Assailants) last season, we had been working so hard to skate as a team and it finally showed when we beat the Serial Thrillers (undefeated team until that bout). Just the feeling knowing that we all gave it our all…and our “all” was enough. The pile of hugs we all crashed into (when the tears and the sweat joined on our faces) was by far my happiest and most proud moment as a skater. WE ARE ARKHAM!

3. How did you get involved with derby? When I lived in Kentucky, my sister the amazing Megela Meyham #83 skated for the Radioactive City Roller Girls. She kept telling me I should join derby, after trying to tell her I wasn’t interested, she talked me into going to watch one practice. Just seeing the girls skating around, working so hard…yet smiling and the overall sisterhood of the team was remarkable (not to mention wearing adorable fishnets! Haha) I was hooked. Now, many years later, through all the shin splints, bruises, scrapes, sore muscles, blood, sweat, tears, I couldn’t picture my life without roller derby in it. It is a huge part of my life and I’ve grown so much, not only as a skater but as a person.

4. You are by far, the most cheery person on the league. What gives you your pep? Just the love of the sport and knowing I’m apart of something so awesome, with so many amazing women (and men…thanks refs and NSO’s). If you love what you’re doing you can’t help but smile!

5. What occupies your time off the track? I work a lot, but when I do manage to have any free time I’m usually with my awesome boyfriend. We love watching movies, trying out new restaurants (I’m new enough to Florida that I’m still in “wide eyed tourist” mode) catching a improv show or just having a night in watching Game of Thrones

6. OPCDG just kicked off a new recruitment. Do you have any advice for girls just starting out? Yes, it’s going to hurt. Yes, you’re going to feel like everyone else in the world is able to do the one thing that challenges you the most. Yes, you’re going to be your own harshest judge (don’t talk yourself down). Yes, you’re going to question if you made a mistake joining because it’s going to be so much harder than it looks when you go watch a bout and they make it look so “easy”…it only looks easy because you didn’t see them when they first started, shaky legs, tears when the muscles just wouldn’t stop hurting, the falls, the sweat, the wanting to give up and the exact feelings you’re feeling now. Not ever girl that tries to make it through recruitment becomes a derby girl…but every derby girl has doubted they could do it; they just didn’t listen to themselves.

7. Lastly, what has been your biggest challenge as a skater and how have you overcome it? Remembering it’s just a sport. It’s so easy to let yourself get so caught up in the moment (the cheap hit, the bad call from a ref because they didn’t see it, when the other team’s jammer slips right past you because you were distracted, etc.) in the end…it’s just a sport, with a bunch a people that keep doing it because they love it, they love each other and they just really love to skate around in circles hitting one another.

Derby Deeds Pocast

If you are not listening to Derby Deeds, I strongly feel that you should start.  Aside from the fact that it’s pretty entertaining, it brings to my attention certain subjects and issues that once further researched, help me grow and be a better coach.  Serious.
